Gillian Kenny Shinnors, returned to the gallery this week with a very special piece.

‘Icarus – Universal Boy’ is an original oil on canvas. It is actually the study to a larger piece of the same name, which sold to a collector on its very first day of the RHA’s Annual Summer Exhibition this year.

It is of a very sweet and nostalgic moment in time, depicted in Kenny-Shinnor’s distinctive style.

Having successfully exhibited across Limerick, at The People’s Museum, The Hunt Museum, in Wickham Way and of course here at Kilbaha Gallery, celebrated Limerick artist, Kenny-Shinnors, can now add ‘selected for the RHA Annual Exhibition’ to her resume.

Taking her inspiration from the ‘affectionate nostalgia’ of the past; of being on holidays in the West of Ireland – old postcards, sunny days on the beach, the environment, the architecture of the time, the attire, the people – and all these memories being skilfully painted in oils using a colour palette that nods to the really distinct colouration of early Kodachrome photography. Her ability to depict these seemingly every-day moment’s so beautifully and with such a raw, contemporary edge, is remarkable.
